Oh, Pioneer!: Campfire Mixtape →
Listening to this, loving it so far. Soothing my nature-craving soul, while stuck inside.
theohpioneer:
I’ve been getting a lot of messages and emails lately asking if I would be releasing a new playlist any time soon. Well, your eager inquiries have been rewarded. This playlist has been personally tested to be suitable for fireside chats in the woods, falling asleep in a tent, quiet...

Are you a cyborg? Disability Theory →
I just saw a description of a book where the author called her character (a blind ‘cripple’) a ‘thing’. Even if there is no gender given this seems problematic to me. I’ve been vaguely interested in Disability Studies since I read Lady Chatterley’s Lover - that is book that is utterly hate-filled towards the disabled husband, mostly because he is ‘more...

Perils of joking about Rick Santorum on Twitter
I quite enjoy the banter on twitter about the various horrors of Republican Party policy, and got myself involved in a discussion about Rick Santorum - more an extended slagging off session on his 'vomit' comment about JFK's famous speech saying there should be separation of church and state.
I said: 'Rick Santorum's policies can be succinctly described in one word - 'yikes'. And got retweeted (@RickSantorum was included in the RT) then in response to a comment that, wasn't the word more likely 'medieval' I said: 'Medieval rulers at least had flair with their sartorial choices.'
What happened then was I got a notification of a new follower. A 'GOP activist' and technology guy for some GOP institute (I think?). He had a pale blank face and small pale moustache. He was following me. Why? I don't know. Perhaps he was of the Romney camp and approved or was looking for insults to use? Perhaps he has a love/hate relationship with Santorum so sordid I couldn't possibly untangle the motives for why my (pretty mild) insults would attract his attention?
BLOCK instantly. Hope he slinks far far away.

– From a BBC article on laboratory grown meat.
I don’t feel too well right now, but I bet in 20 years I’ll be happily munching on artificial steak. Um. Maybe.

Excerpt from Kilea. Last time? Maybe! →
Maybe someone will chance to read, and request the novel, want to publish it, then I can go and lie in a chair, fanning myself with a cushion until I pass out.
I need to go and read some more poetry again.

To the rib-and-torso images on Tumblr and the...
Do we need to see the bones of women to love them?
I can see the shadow in the bones in my wrist, and it is neither here nor there. I am full coated in other places, though it all connects.
But it seems as though the culture wants mostly the jut of pelvis and the cowrie hardness. To claim in image a deheaded, beribbed torso as the ultimate beauty. A smallness of beauty. An isolate, claimable thing.
If I had ribs that ghosted under the skin, I would not mind. I would know I was my body, and more besides. I would not be an island of bare rock, but everything underneath too. The full, fat eyes and the chapped lips, all of it.
